A literary evening with Lize Spit and Jaap Robben, moderated by Suzi Feay

Performing & Visual Arts

Authors Lize Spit (The Melting) and Jaap Robben (Summer Brother) explore their dark novels about adolescence and coming-of-age.

At this special one-off event, authors Lize Spit and Jaap Robben explore their dark and unsettling novels about adolescence and coming-of-age.

Jaap Robben’s novel Summer Brother, which was longlisted for the International Booker Prize, is the story of a dislocated family, a trailer park, an older brother with a disability and a younger one way out of his depth.

Lize Spit’s Flemish international bestseller The Melting, deals with a reckoning with adolescent cruelty and the scars that linger well into adulthood.

Both authors will give short readings from the books and discuss their work with journalist Suzi Feay, a writer for the FT and formerly Literary Editor of the Independent on Sunday.

There will be opportunities to meet the authors and get books signed after the event.

This event is organised by Flanders House UK in partnership with New Dutch Writing, supported by Flanders Literature and the Dutch Foundation for Literature. Thanks to Newham Books for providing copies of books for the event.

Tickets are free, please book to avoid disappointment.

We aim to create a space of safety for everyone attending our events. All guests are asked to wear a face covering when sitting down and listening to the authors’ presentation. There will be a reception afterwards for those who feel comfortable to attend.

Doors at 6.30pm for a 7pm start

Drinks at 8.30pm, event ends at 9pm
