Guest speakers

Marco Murray

Marco is a Director in the Entity Compliance & Governance team at EY. His keen interest in leveraging technology to improve corporate governance practices has helped to build and implement EYโ€™s corporate governance technology solutions. He has guided organisations in selecting and deploying tools that streamline governance processes, enhance data management, and improve reporting capabilities.

Sara Thomson

Sara is Interim Group Company Secretary at Tesco PLC. She has over 20 yearsโ€™ experience in legal, compliance and company secretarial roles, across a range of industries, including more recently banking and retail. For the last 12 years she has worked at Tesco, one of the worldโ€™s leading retailers, providing legal and corporate governance support to the Tesco PLC board and committees, as well as its group companies and shareholder base.

Within a secretariat remit, Sara has led on a number of high-profile corporate actions and enjoys the challenge of shaping governance frameworks.

Paul Johnston

Paul has over fifteen years of experience in the corporate governance field, spanning the public, private, and third sectors. He is an Associate Director at One Advisory, supporting a range of clients on a range of corporate governance and compliance issues. Paul was shortlisted for the CGIโ€™s Governance Professional of the Year award in 2024.

Paul is a researcher at the Centre for AI in Board Effectiveness, a research-led initiative being led out of Brunel University (University of London) looking at the opportunities and risks that artificial intelligence presents for board effectiveness, as well as what developments in AI mean for company directors and corporate governance professionals.

Claire Bodanis

Claire is a leading authority in the UK on corporate reporting; in 2004, she founded Falcon Windsor, a specialist reporting and advisory firm. What sets FW apart is Claireโ€™s philosophy: it is only by understanding why we are required to report that we can navigate the complexities of regulation and do the difficult job of reporting well.

This led to Claire being asked by the UK Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) to write a guide to reporting for UK plc. Trust me, Iโ€™m listed โ€“ why the annual report matters and how to do it well, was published in October 2021. In 2023, as ChatGPT started to gain traction, she carried out her first piece of research into the use of AI in reporting, and, in November of that year, published guidance for Boards and management on a responsible approach. You can find out more here.
