Briefing paper launch:Tyre wear particles are toxic for us &the environment

Uncategorized

Join us at a panel discussion to launch a new briefing paper on the impacts of tyre wear particles on our health and the environment.

This event, hosted by Imperial’s Transition to Zero Pollution Initiative, will introduce the first briefing paper from the Initiative Tyre wear particles are toxic for us and the environment.

The Transition to Zero Pollution initiative has been bringing together researchers from across Imperial to discuss the impacts of tyre wear pollution. Through these discussions we have written a briefing paper outlining the current knowledge on the effects of tyre wear particles on our health and environment, the need for an ambitious research agenda to build further understanding of the impacts on people and nature and develop solutions, and recommendations for policymakers.

The event will introduce the briefing paper and our panel of experts will discuss next steps for researchers and policymakers in addressing the issues around tyre wear pollution.

Dr Marc Masen (Mechanical Engineering) will introduce the paper and the panel speakers include Professor Mary Ryan (Vice-Provost Research & Enterprise), Professor Robert Shorten (Dyson School of Design Engineering) and Professor Terry Tetley (National Heart and Lung Institute).

The panel discussion take place 17:00-18:00 and will be followed by a drinks reception from 18.00-19.00 for those attending in-person.

About the Transition to Zero Pollution initiative

Transition to Zero Pollution is one of the first initiatives of Imperial College London’s new Academic Strategy. The initiative captures Imperial’s vision to transform the way we think about pollution, bringing together ideas around resource management, health and environmental impacts, socio-economic and human behaviour in a ‘whole system’ approach. Imperial are building on work being done to tackle greenhouse gas emissions and deliver net zero carbon, and going beyond that to build a sustainable zero pollution future.
