An evening of ceramics & alchemy: 'The Arcanum', a book about an unusual man called Böttger and his search for the secret of porcelain.
His name was Johann Frederick Böttger. A victim of his own hyperbole, he claimed to be able to make gold, was imprisoned in a fairy-tale castle and under constant threat of execution by his ruthless captor, as an almost unintended consequence and a will to survive, searched for the slightly more realistic goal of discovering the secret of Chinese porcelain.
Come join us for a drink and discuss the book 'The Arcanum', share in the joy of ceramic alchemy and try some porcelain experiments.
if you would like to read some or all of the book before coming you can but it is not essential, all welcome.
