COUNTERTALK, YO! & Movember: INDUSTRY CHATS #4

Uncategorized

This is the fourth event of a series of industry based events aimed at looking into some of the issues that we face on a daily basis and giving you the tools to understand them, move forward and take action.

--

We’ve proudly partnered with YO!, the Japanese and sushi restaurant group, and Movember, the leading charity changing the face of men’s health, to host a panel talk on November 12th on how to combat the stigma around mental health.

This year, YO! is Movember’s official restaurant partner to help raise awareness and fundraise for mental health, through activating several offers throughout the month, alongside hosting this very important and hopefully insightful evening.

The event will be take place at YO! Kitchen Westfield White City, a brand new restaurant and concept for YO! that doesn’t feature the iconic kaiten conveyor belt but focuses on delicious sharing plates that attendees will be able to try.

There will be three guests on the panel, including Alyson Hancock, HR Director at YO! who will discuss how to approach mental health within the restaurant industry;

Alyson Hancock is the HR Director at YO! A true hospitality professional, Alyson opened and successfully managed restaurants in Dubai, Oman and Singapore. Since returning to the UK, she qualified and has grown her career in HR. Alyson now champions the wellness agenda at YO! where she recently launched their wellbeing policy & mental health first aid training. Alyson is a strong advocate for flexible working and keeps her own wellbeing in check by being plain old ‘Mum’ to her 2 year old son.

Sarah Coghlan, Global Health Promotion Director at Movember who will speak about how to change the status quo and encourage both men and women on how to open up about their mental health concerns

Sarah is Movember’s Global Director of Men's Health Promotion Programmes. Part Movember’s original start up, growth and success, going on to lead the expansion of the charity as it launched into the UK and Europe. Most recently responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of Movember’s work globally in health promotion programmes for men, to drive changes in men's behaviour, so they will live happier, healthier, longer lives.

and last but not least Merly Kammerling of Me, Myself & Mind a trained chef who also focuses on running workshops for those working in hospitality on mindfulness and much more.

Merly Kammerling is a chef, therapist and founder of Me, Myself in Mind; providing stress reduction, self awareness and mental health awareness in hospitality. Merly set up her business after realising that there wasn't enough support or any resources in place that educated others in hospitality to what stress is or how it can be dealt with. Merly now provides experiential workshops to businesses in hospitality as well as one-on-one referrals and is a huge advocate of encouraging on the power self awareness and talking therapy.

This event is open to anyone working in the Hospitality industry in any capacity.

You will get a chance to listen to the panel who will be discussing actionable practices that can be implemented to improve the mental well being of workers, followed by a Q&A. YO! will also be kindly providing the food for the evening as well as sponsoring the tickets. Grab them fast - we are really excited for this one!
