Huxley Lecture Theatre, ZSL Meeting Rooms
Registration
This event will take place in person at ZSL's Huxley Lecture Theatre, and online via Zoom.
The National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme (NHMP) was launched in 2023 by Peopleβs Trust for Endangered Species and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, in partnership with Nottingham Trent University, ZSL, Mammal Web, London HogWatch and Durham University. The NHMP conducts crucial monitoring aiming to understand population sizes, and determine the threats our native species face, in order to guide effective conservation action.
In this event, speakers will tell the story of the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme, from its inception and coordination, through to implementation and preliminary findings. Speakers will discuss how, using a range of AI tools and a wide network of citizen scientists, the large-scale survey sites were set up and the vast quantities of data continue to be processed. Join us to learn more about wider efforts to monitor British wildlife, the challenges of scaling up scientific approaches on a national scale, and how you can get involved with the NHMP.
This event will be chaired by Dr Richard Yarnell, Nottingham Trent University.
