DL Research Salon: Empowering citizens in an automated society

Science & Technology

As more private and government services become automated, many people feel disengaged, powerless and helpless.

Along with the increased automation of various important decision making processes of our lives (from health, education, environment, housing, legal processes and benefits), there is a push back from activists, scholars and citizens to be part of these processes and have the power to shape and develop them.

Join us for the first DL Research salon in the new year to hear from the experts who work on projects that aim to empower citizens to participate and be proactive in co-creating and deciding the future of their communities.

In a discussion led by Dr Helen Pritchard, Head of Digital Arts Computing and a Lecturer in Computing (Digital and Computational Art) at Goldsmiths, University of London and Fieke Jansen, Researcher and Mozilla Foundation Fellow we will try and understand what are the challenges and opportunities projects of inclusion promote and what types of responsibilities and roles different actors have in them.

The salon will be followed by networking drinks hosted at the same venue.
