Echo chambers and extremism: countering digital radicalisation

Government & Politics

Dr Tessa Szyszkowitz and Dr Julia Ebner discuss the latest challenge to liberal democracy: the mainstreaming of extremist ideas.

The digital sphere poses a new challenge to democracy: the mainstreaming of extremist ideas. From anti-vaxxers to incels, neo-Nazis to conspiracy theorists, and Kremlin apologists to religious extremists - radicalised individuals are using social media to create alternative information ecosystems and influence mainstream political dialogue like never before.

As our democratic institutions struggle to function in the face of these new political dynamics, and authoritarian regimes abroad look to exploit the 'information wars', what should policymakers do?

Join us for a conversation between security and counter-extremism experts Dr Tessa Szyszkowitz and Dr Julia Ebner to learn more.
