About the exhibition:

The United Nations designated 1975 as International Womenโ€™s Year and hosted the first Conference on Women in Mexico on the themes of equality, peace and development. Further conferences were held in Copenhagen in 1980 and Nairobi in 1985 in what the UN called the UN Decade of Women. This was followed by a final gathering in Beijing in 1995. This exhibition highlights the promises, challenges and critiques of the UN Decade of Women and the legacies of transnational feminisms that emerged from 1975 and still exist today.
