First Mondays: Dr. Dexter Penn (Kalgera Founder)

Business & Professional

Be inspired by successful entrepreneurs and form lasting connections with peers that could benefit your business with UCL Innovation & Enterprise’s First Mondays networking evenings.

Overview

First Mondays is a monthly entrepreneurial community networking event held at UCL's entrepreneurial hub; BaseKX.

The evening is designed to help you make powerful business connections, whether it’s finding a potential co-founder, meeting a mentor, identifying sources of funding, or simply making new connections and contacts to expand your network.

What to expect

First Mondays involve a short inspirational talk by a business leader, followed by in-depth conversations over a free drink with your peers about your business idea or your interest in entrepreneurship. This will include under- and postgraduates, alumni, researchers, and PhD students, as well as those building their businesses outside the university.

The evening will be full of opportunities to ask for and give support to your fellow entrepreneurially-minded colleagues.

Who's it for?

First Mondays is open to all enterprising minds both inside and outside UCL in the wider London entrepreneurial ecosystem. Whether you have a business idea or simply want to share knowledge or learn from others, please come along!

There is no selection process but we ask you to register your attendance for catering purposes

Please only register if you can confirm your attendance. Non-attendees will jeopardise future chances of support.

About the speaker

Dr. Dexter Penn is an entrepreneur and Clinical Research Fellow at the UCL Dementia Research Centre. After shaping his idea at a UCL’s Enterprise Boot Camp, Dexter won the UCL Bright Ideas Award (now the ‘Launch £10,000 Programme’) and subsequently joined The Hatchery – UCL’s business incubator for startups. This enabled him to complete market research and find suitable co-founders to develop Kalgera.

Kalgera has won the UCL George Fahra New Venture Award, being named by Tech Nation as one of three ‘Top New Financial Inclusion Startups’, and listed by Centrica as one of the ‘Top 20 Global Ageing startups’. Dexter has also contributed to discussions around public policy at a round-table meeting at 10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office. He's subsequently been appointed to the NHS England Clinical Entrepreneur Programme, and secured more than £300,000 of additional investment in 2018.
