About our speaker

John Scanlon is Chief Executive Officer of SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, which is a recycling and energy recovery company employing over 5,600 people in the UK operating from over 320 sites.

The Company provides services to one in three people in the UK and its vision is โ€˜to live in a world where there is no more waste!โ€™

Johnโ€™s industrial leadership and strategic vision has been forged over his 30-year career with SUEZ, since joining in 1991 as one of the companyโ€™s first employees in the UK. He has been an integral part of the executive committee since 2003.

About our panellist

David Symons is Future Ready Global Lead at WSP, and has worked on long-term future and sustainability programs for close to 30 years. He advises companies and governments on long-term trends and developing practical, implementation programs to address these.

David is also part of the London Skills Improvement Plan board, representing green skills across London .

Laila Takeh is Strategy and Sustainability Consultant. She formerly working for Deloitte as Sustainability and Climate Director and has a wide range of experience across the not-for-profit sector working in strategy, sustainability and technology roles.

Laila is an IEMA Fellow and author of the upcoming State of the Profession survey for sustainability and environmental professionals.

Green Horizons: A Workforce Fit for Tomorrow is a new digital series by IEMA and Content With Purpose, featuring voices from across the industryโ€”including Canal & River Trust, Arup, Egis, RSPB, CWM, SRK, Center Parcs UK & Ireland, and BSIโ€”alongside contributions from thought leaders like Dhara Vyas (Energy UK), Pamela Brown (AIRA), and Phil Stevenson (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew), and James Alexander (UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association). The series explores how green jobs are being created, the skills needed, and how people at all stages of their careers can get involved.
