Honourable Artillery Company Toastmasters Club - Public Speaking Practice

Business & Professional

Are you ready to take charge of your 2020? What is your mission this year? How well do you get your message across?

How ambitious are you for 2020?

What is your mission this year? How well do you get your message across?

  • Are you going to need to craft and deliver a toast or special occasion speech?
  • A wedding speech, after dinner speech or that crucial pitch to your financial backers?
  • Do you want to nail that presentation at work? Or have you been asked to give the dreaded five minute presentation to an interview panel?

Whatever speech it is, HAC Toastmasters is for people who want to learn how to understand and delight an audience. Practice saying it against a historic display of medals in a building owned by the British Army's oldest regiment, set up by Henry VIII in 1537. We are a community based club comprised of army reservists and civilians and typically we would expect 20 to 30 attendees at a meeting.

Beyond your own words you will learn to use the surroundings, the sense of occasion and how you present yourself, to find your authentic voice. You will connect and then inspire your audience.

If you decide to join , you get access to a Toastmasters global personal and professional development programme, with different pathways, so you can become the leader you want to be.

We meet every second and fourth Tuesday of the month, 1900 to 2100 at Armoury House, City Road, London EC1Y 2BQ.

Our meetings are entertaining and exciting and keep to a tight, action-packed agenda. Our ethos is that everyone, including guests, is given the chance to speak – all before a drink in the bar!

We have a dress code! Women should wear dresses, skirts or trousers worn with blouses. Gentlemen should wear jackets, ties and acceptable trousers with appropriate shoes.

HAC Toastmasters is:

  • About developing the confidence in public speaking that fundamentally underpins leadership.
  • Open to everyone - whether terrified of public speaking or you consider it a strength.
  • A supportive environment where we give feedback to encourage and help each other.
  • A development programme, with different pathways, so everyone can develop their skills in the most useful way for them.
  • The opportunity to practice both prepared and impromptu speaking.
  • A tried and internationally tested programme - modular, online and portable.

HAC Toastmasters is not:

  • Only for experienced speakers - it's aimed at everyone, especially those who are nervous; but it can also develop individuals to speak professionally.
  • A one-off or short public speaking course - we look for members who want to come regularly (you can come as often as you like as a guest).

We are a not-for-profit club. Your membership fees of Β£90 per year cover the cost of affiliation to Toastmasters International, running the club and its activities.

If you want to stay after the meeting, drinks are Β£1 from 2100 in the Sutling Room (the bar).
