Kurdish New Year Newroz Reception in the House of Commons

The event will be attended by distinguished guests including Hişyar Özsoy and Leyla Birlik of the Peoples' Democratic Party, Turkey. There will be speeches, music, drinks and cultural performances.

Newroz is the most important festival for Kurdish and Middle Eastern People, a time of celebration and renewal. In partaking of the riches that Kurdish culture has to offer however we cannot forget the suffering and ordeals that many Kurds have had to confront over the years. This year’s Newroz takes place as Kurdish communities in Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria, their elected representatives and their social, political and cultural institutions are assailed by serious threats that put their very existence and integrity at risk.

So please join us and our friends, MPs and peers from various parties, communities and business leaders in celebrating the Kurdish New Year, 2020.
