About this event

This special episode of Media Minded - the podcast which explores the bizarre world of misinformation and conspiracies - takes a deep dive into NATO’s role in the Ukraine crisis. Our in-person panel discussion facilitates a conversation between sector experts, academics, and individuals working in NATO, discussing how the recent war of aggression in Ukraine negatively impacts the UK and how NATO’s swift support and unhesitating willingness to act has helped to strengthen Ukraine against the invasion, re-affirming NATO’s ironclad commitment to collective security.

With the Russian Federation sponsoring disinformation on an unprecedented level, the panel will explore ways in which NATO can act to inoculate itself and its members from mis and disinformation, dispelling the persistent false narratives, historical revisionism, and conspiracy theories spread to justify the invasion of Ukraine.

Speakers

  • Paul King - Editor and Engagement Officer at NATO, responsible for the Engagement Section's online engagement, as well as country officer for the UK, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Slovenia, Croatia and Ireland.
  • Claire Halperin - Deputy Head of Mission at the UK Delegation to NATO
  • Dr Precious N Chatterje-Doody - Author of Russia Today and Conspiracy Theories: People, Power and Politics on RT and Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the Open University, with a specific research interest in Russian foreign and security policy, and state propaganda.
  • Nicholas Yap - Deputy Director & Chief of Staff at the Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab). The DFRLab has operationalised the study of disinformation by exposing falsehoods and fake news, documenting human rights abuses, and building digital resilience worldwide.
