Long Ago and Far Away - Analysis For The Buzzard Platforms by Subsea7

Science & Technology

Join us for another interesting technical talk by Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Subsea7 about engineering analysis.

LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY

ANALYSIS FOR THE BUZZARD PLATFORMS

The Buzzard fixed offshore platforms are located in the North Sea approximately 60 miles to the North East of Aberdeen. The Buzzard reservoir was discovered in 2001 and has been in production since 2007. It currently produces 150,000 barrels of oil per day. The Buzzard field development consisted originally of three bridge-linked steel platforms that supported the wellhead facilities, production facilities and the living quarters and utilities.

In this talk, Graeme will revisit the numerical analyses he did for Buzzard in 2005 and describe methods that are still relevant today. On a recent bus trip, Graeme heard a couple of teenagers decrying nostalgia - "Nostalgia's just for old people". In light of this, the talk will be interspersed with vignettes and experiences from Graeme's 30 years in the offshore industry. The talk will focus on family, friends and engineering analysis.

Presented by Graeme Roberts who works for Subsea 7, which is a tier 1 offshore installation contractor.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues with the speaker and others at the end of the evening.

The lecture will take place on Tuesday 3rd of December 2019, 18:00 - 19.30 in the Main Lecture Theatre (RV.MB.0012) at Kingston University, Roehampton Campus.

This event is being hosted jointly by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers London South West Area.
