Monzo x Pride in STEM present Out Thinkers

Business & Professional

Join us for Monzo's first collaboration with Pride in STEM for an exciting Out Thinkers session presenting three brilliant minds in tech!

Pride in STEM & Monzo Present Out Thinkers

Being out and proud in the world of Science, Tech, Engineering, and Maths continues to be challenging for a large proportion of LGBTQ+ people. The Out Thinkers events have been created to shine a light on these issues and provide a platform to showcase the work of these people. Pride in STEM, the leading UK LGBT+ in STEM organisation, has now produced over two dozen Out Thinkers events in the last three years with incredible speakers from a huge variety of under-represented backgrounds and disciplines.

For this incredible evening of tech, maths, and science, we will kick off the night with pizzas and drinks before hearing from the following speakers:

Meri Williams - Monzo CTO - Journey and career within STEM

Meri Williams is an experienced technology leader, with an impressive track record in building and scaling technology organisations within a range of sectors. She is currently CTO at mobile-first bank Monzo, previous holding a CTO position at MOO for two years.

Tom Crowford - Institute of Physics Early Career Physics Communicator Awards - Equations Stripped

Tom is a tutor at St Hugh’s College, St Edmund Hall and St John’s College at the University of Oxford where he teaches maths to the first and second year undergraduates. He also runs an award-winning website and associated social media profiles on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube @tomrocksmaths.

Dr Krishnaa Mahbubani - Research Associate at the Cambridge Biorepository for Translational Medicine, - Thinking OUTside the box

Dr Krishnaa holds a First Class masters in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, before moving to Cambridge to study for a Ph.D. The PhD was an interdisciplinary project exploring methods to produce and deliver live dried bacterial. The can be adapted for use as therapeutic materials and even bacterial vaccines.

We will end with the opportunity with networking before closing.

The event will take place at Monzo HQ in Finsbury Square.

Pride in STEM is an award-nominated British Charitable Trust. Its goal is to showcase and support LGBTQ+ people in STEM and to do this it has collaborated with many organisations such as the Science Museum, the Francis Crick Institute, Stonewall, The British Science Association, the University of Cambridge, The Royal Maritime Museum, and the European Space Agency. Since 2017, it has been spearheaded LGBTSTEM Day the international day for LGBTQ+ people in STEM.

We can't wait to see you there!
