NLG and Data Science, presented by Yaji Sripada

Data science leans heavily on visuals in the form of graphs and other kinds of charts. This data visualization is an essential part of the data science process because of its usefulness in understanding insights from data. Indeed, data science libraries regularly feature graphics libraries. This talk answers questions related to how NLG is a similarly vital part of the data science process, and how integrating NLG can complement visuals. We will present some initial results from our ongoing investigations into making NLG more accessible to the data science community.

NLG Across Industries, presented by Scott Moyer

Natural language generation (NLG) can take many shapes within the business enterprise – from report automation to augmented analytics. This talk explores various applications of NLG across multiple industries showing value and impact to the business. This session is perfect for anyone who has considered adding NLG to a project/product, or who is interested in exploring its many use cases.

Speakers:

Dr. Yaji Sripada, Chief Development Scientist

Dr. Sripada joined the Aberdeen NLG Group in the year 2000. In 2004, his team created the NLG texts that were for the first time rated by users as better than human-authored texts.

Dr. Sripada is responsible for engineering and software applications and supervision of specific NLG projects. He is a Senior Lecturer in Computing Science at the University of Aberdeen and a founder and director of Data2Text Limited, the Scottish company spun out from the University of Aberdeen in 2009. Data2Text was acquired by Arria in 2013. Both the University of Aberdeen and Dr. Sripada remain significant founding shareholders in Arria.
