R3: Transforming Capital Markets

R3 is shaping the financial industry by the day, utilising distributed ledger technology to its full potential. Through their DLT, Corda, they invite a multitude of applications to be built to solve some of the most exciting problems of the financial world. Join R3, and KCL Blockchain, a student-led society from King’s College London, in this exciting event. It will feature two companies that build on Corda (Value on Chain and Agora), as well as Angie Walker (Global Head of Capital Markets, R3) and Moritz Platt (Solutions Engineering Team, R3) who will talk about using Corda to make an impact on Capital Markets.

After the event there will be time to network with drinks and snacks.

About the speakers:

Angie Walker (Global Head of Capital Markets Business Development, R3)

Angie Walker is the Global Head of Capital Markets at R3. She has a phenomenal 25+ year-long track record in driving strategic sales into enterprise, SaaS and channel partner clients.

Moritz Platt (Solutions Engineering Team Lead, R3)

Moritz Platt is a Solutions Engineering Team Lead at R3. He is also a key member of the ever growing scientific blockchain community at King’s College London, doing research on DLT.

Antoine Loth (Value on Chain)

Antoine is entrepreneur in residence at R3 and the Co-Founder of Value on Chain: the first decentralized marketplace for real assets. Prior to founding Value on Chain, Antoine gained experience in renewable energy and transportation infrastructure investment at Demeter Partners, the leading European Cleantech private equity fund. Antoine is an ESCP Europe (Msc) and Warwick University (Bsc) graduate.

Value on Chain is an end-to-end platform that provides accessible real assets investment with liquidity, fungibility and lifecycle management. The VoC CorDapp will provide a gateway between asset managers and broker/investor networks to automate issuances, exchanges, lifecycle management of digital versions of illiquid real and infrastructure assets.

Charlie Berman (Agora)

Charlie has been closely involved with Sovereign, Supranational and Agency borrowers for nearly 30 years originating and executing countless benchmarks and other capital raisings for debut and frequent issuers across the globe. In total he spent 18 years at Salomon Brothers/Citigroup in a variety of positions including Co Head of Credit Markets and Co Head of Fixed Income Capital Markets and was a member of the Global Fixed Income operating committee.

In 2011, Charlie returned to mainstream investment banking at Barclays Capital where he stayed until 2018 with his final role as Chairman of Debt Capital Markets.

In September 2018 he became an Entrepreneur in Residence at R3 in London and shortly thereafter founded agora - Digital Debt Capital Markets Ltd with the intention of applying new technologies including DLT to the full life cycle of International bonds. DDCM Ltd has recently closed its initial seed round and is moving towards MVP.

Agora is the first truly end-to-end digital platform for the full life-cycle of a bond from issuance to redemption. Using Corda, agora works with the existing market participants to deliver a better product to issuers and investors. The agora platform creates ‘smart bonds’ which can regulate their own activity and enforce their own rights and obligations leading to straight through processing.
