Rethinking Our Planning System - Part 2

We know that the planning system is broken, that trust in developers is at an all-time low and that there is an urgent need for more housing, infrastructure and community assets. But what are the solutions? What can developers, local authorities, the government and individuals do to ensure the planning system is sustainable?

Earlier this year U+I hosted a panel discussion on the Raynsford Review, Planning 2020, which states that the planning system should act as a force for good and enable progress, development and innovation in an accessible way but fails to do so. We looked at the reasons why this was the case with our panellists including The Rt Hon Nick Raynsford, Fiona Howie, the Chief Executive at the TCPA, Hugh Ellis, Policy Director at the TCPA and myself, Chief Development Officer at U+I.

Our panellists will return at the beginning of the New Year to continue the conversation, reflect on these reasons for failure and develop potential solutions. This is a particularly poignant time following on from the general election, where issues such as this come into focus.

I hope you can join us to take part in the discussion.
