The Emerging Scottish Artist of the Year Award was started in March 2020 as a partnership between Scotland House and the Fleming Collection to showcase the work of an emerging Scottish artist in celebration of contemporary Scottish talent. The winner of the annual award has the opportunity to showcase their work at our premise on 58 Victoria Embankment for the year.
We are excited to announce that the winner of this year's award is Lizzie Lilley. Graduating from Aberdeen's Grayβs School of Art in July 2021, Lizzie's practice centres around a responsive process of slow abstraction of photographic imagery. Using colour and texture, Lizzie transforms images of memories and historical events so that only the visual tension or calm remains apparent.
The evening reception will be hosted by Neil Gray, Minister for Culture, Europe and International Development, at Scotland House London, where we will view the artist's work whilst she engages in conversation with James Knox, Director of the Fleming Collection.
