The End of Gas

How to deliver the UK’s Net Zero future

By Professor Aaron Gillich, Professor of Building Decarbonisation, School of the Built Environment & Architecture, LSBU and Director of the BSRIA LSBU Net Zero Building Centre

Description: The world must keep below 1.5C of climate change to avoid catastrophe and time is running out. The UK has a goal of creating a Net Zero carbon economy, which requires rapidly ending the use of fossil fuels as we know it. Among a range of challenges, phasing out the use of gas in the built environment will likely be toughest of all. This lecture will focus on how we became so dependent on gas, why it's so hard to break the habit, and what we can all do to help.

Biography: Aaron Gillich is Professor of Building Decarbonisation and Director of the BSRIA LSBU Net Zero Building Centre. NZBC is a joint venture created to accelerate decarbonisation in the built environment. He is particularly interested in the links between the technical and policy aspects of complex problems such as the decarbonisation of heating. Aaron has run a wide range of research projects across topics including heat networks, heat pumps, and thermal retrofit program design.
