The Third Space - Intimate Look at Marginality
We are pleased to welcome you to Makda Iyasu’s The Third Space, an immersive art exhibition at the Ridley Road Social Club. The exhibition by the London-based artist and filmmaker reveals a decade worth of documentary projects exploring the intersection of the concept of gender to deconstruct race – a journey led by her personal determination to reimagine a shared, intimate world.

Iyasu’s immersive exhibition experience looks intimately at marginality topics and spaces whilst interrogating gender ideals. Providing a new means of creating and subverting our interactions with people and environments
Iyasu’s multi-disciplinary practice spans photography, video and installation to communicate the importance of connectivity and solidarity. Documenting the everyday and the ordinary into moments of powerful visual importance. This enables the opportunity of discovery, and a new way to perceive reality. Makda's transgressions of the traditional boundaries of media and culture reflect the many facets of her own artistic formation. Makda elevates the subcultures and spaces that go against the norm.
