We are thrilled to invite you to the opening reception of Amy Fleuriot-Reade's debut solo exhibition 'The Travel Diaries'. Join us for an evening surrounded by Amy's paintings as we delve into the life of an avid traveller and painter.

About 'The Travel Diaries'

An avid traveller and diary keeper, Amy Fleuriot-Readeโ€™s trips throughout India, Africa and beyond have provided her with continuous inspiration. They are a visual feast, fast paced and full of new sights, sounds and people. With the impossibility of truly capturing a place even with a camera, Amy studies the places she visits fully absorbing everything from the textures and smells to the sounds of a place, journaling everything as she goes.

โ€œItโ€™s only when I stop moving and start drawing that I can really take everything in.โ€ Says Amy.

Once back in her studio Amy builds her own imaginary compositions by collaging all of her most memorable moments and the experience of being in it using a combination of pen and watercolour.

This exhibition takes us on a tour from sketch book to final piece of Amyโ€™s most memorable trips from India to Mexico right back here to Hackney Road. A reminder that we do not have to travel the world to experience a feast for the eyes.

About Amy Fleuriot-Reade

Amyโ€™s background as a maker has given her a real passion for process, โ€œIโ€™m not happy putting pen to paper until I have spent time understanding how things work and go together but I am also happy to learn on the job,โ€ she says, โ€œpicking up everything I can as I go along from the people around me.โ€ Amy would describe herself as someone who is not afraid to try out new things creatively. Whether it be designing jewellery, block printed textiles or woven baskets she applies her love of colour and pattern with deliberate enthusiasm.

The nature of her work as Co-founder and Designer at ethical homeware and jewellery brand Artisans & Adventurers has lead her to travel down many unbeaten tracks. Over the years, Amy has kept diaries of quick sketches and photographs alongside notes on colour palettes, details and unexpected events.
