ToryTechs Hackathon #2

Science & Technology

Work with fellow Conservatives to build the future of campaigning and MP tooling. Join the community.

Use your tech, design, and political know-how to help the Conservative Party, and the UK Political sphere more generally.

At the second Hackathon of itโ€™s kind, weโ€™ll be doubling down on building technology across these challenges, with a focus on impact for the upcoming May elections:

  • Help MPs respond to casework more effectively
  • Improve & track the passage of legislation through the House of Commons
  • Support the Conservative Partyโ€™s campaigning efforts

ToryTechs is co-hosting with Kanto and Digital Tories to put on this, and future events - read more below...

What will happen?

Weโ€™ll be spending Saturday and Sunday the 12th & 13th of March building and launching tech to improve democracy, and the effectiveness of government.

On Saturday, weโ€™ll introduce the challenges in more detail and youโ€™ll form a team with your fellow attendees. Our mentors will then work with you to hone, scope, and build your ideas. On Sunday afternoon, youโ€™ll present your solution to our expert (and well known) panel of judges.

To be eligible for judging, projects must be publicly available on GitHub with an MIT or CC license.

What is a Hackathon?

Hackathons are weekend events for technologists, designers, and domain experts to come together and solve problems in an intensive and collaborative way.

Who can come?

We welcome all that are willing to work and develop tools that would be helpful for the UK Conservative Party and are sympathetic to the values of the Conservative Party to apply.

Our application & review process is to ensure a good distribution of skills is present.

Who will be there:

We are anticipating up to 25 people that have moderate to advanced coding skill sets and a few designers and graphics people to join the mix.

Where & when will it be?

Weโ€™ll be meeting on the 12th & 13th of March a short walk from Westminster Underground Station (precise location to be shared after sign-up).

Doors will be open from 08:30 (with bacon sandwiches) for a 09:00 start.

Weโ€™ll supply the coffee, pizza, booze, and power, so just bring your laptop!

The futureโ€ฆ

ToryTechs is joining forces with Kanto and Digital Tories to put on this, and future events, we will be running these events quarterly from now on with a focus on building a community of technologists, passionate about politics, who want to support the Conservative Party.

Our focus areas for 2022 are:

  • Help MPs respond to casework more effectively
  • Improve & track the passage of legislation through the House of Commons
  • Support the Conservative Partyโ€™s campaigning efforts
