30 January London : Richard Norris - Pandreco Energy Advisory "Energy and Society: Future Shock"

Business & Professional

Title

"Energy and Society: Future Shock"

Synopsis

Urgency, Fear and Blame are used to vilify hydrocarbons and a utopian "Greener, Cleaner and Cheaper" future is promised.  If this is indeed possible then there is no logical room for discussion.  However, if the Greener and Cleaner future will be more expensive, then society has to face many hard choices.  Access to cheap energy has underpinned huge advances in human development, albeit at a considerable and for some, existential, cost.  A future with more expensive energy may be very different than today's promised vision.  Richard will share his thoughts and lead the debate.

Speaker

Richard Norris has over 30 years’ experience in the energy sector, dominantly in oil and gas.  He is currently a Consulting Partner at ‘Helios Investment Partners’ where he co-manages half a billion dollars of investments. Prior to joining Helios, he was a CEO of TSX listed ‘Candax Energy’ managing assets in Tunisia and Madagascar, following on from the role of General Manager in a private oil company with assets in SE Asia.

Earlier in his career Richard held technical roles with ‘BNP Paribas’ in Reserves Based Lending covering MENA, FSU and Europe.  He started his career as a Petroleum Engineer with ‘Elf Aquitaine’ (subsequently Total) working on Oil and Gas fields across West Africa, including four years in Angola.

Richard holds a BSc in Geology, and MSc in Petroleum Geology and a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, London.  Through his consulting company, ‘Pandreco’, Richard writes extensively about energy and the role of hydrocarbons and invests in energy-transition companies.
