Join us for drinks at the opening of A Textiles show!
This show will have woven fabrics as well as quilted pieces of textiles on display. Please join us for a celebration of traditional crafts. There will be a private view on the 6th December 6-9pm. The show will be on all weekend 7th-8th December 10am-5pm. Please sign up for a ticket for the private view however the weekend won't be ticketed.
Ruby Bankhead is a textile designer and hand weaver based in South London. She achieved a first class honors degree at Chelsea College of Arts studying Textile Design. Though her work is mainly fine art based by creating cloth to be hung and draped as artwork. Traditional and antique textiles has been influential throughout Bankhead’s work by the use of repetitive stripe, tartan and gingham mimicking french linen.
The importance of understanding the texture of each yarn and hand making everything with detail is very important to her and her work as it respects the ancient traditions of textile craft. The process has a slow pace which requires patience and results to an immense appreciation of the materials. The artworks are made with the goal of enjoying the process and steps as well as creating an end piece.
