Addressing industry fears over fixings – a new guide to management of fixings

Following notable fixings failures at Boston ‘Big Dig’ Tunnel, Massachusetts, Sasago Tunnel in Japan and Balcombe Railway Tunnel, it became evident there are some gaps in practice, knowledge and guidance, particularly in terms of the onward management of fixings. This talk presents an overview of CIRIA C778 which provides best practice guidance on the management of safety critical fixings.

Mungo Stacey is Head of Profession within WSP’s civil, bridge and ground discipline with responsibility for the capability and competence of staff in the discipline. He is a Chartered Engineer with ICE and Fellow of the IStructE with extensive experience in research and standards. He leads European project teams working on the second-generation structural Eurocodes for bridges.
