An evening at The Sensory Symphony by Guildhall Live Events

Performing & Visual Arts

Guildhall Live Events showcases their brand-new, immersive performance experience accompanied by a series of talks with those who created it

Guildhall Live Events will be hosting an evening to showcase their brand-new, immersive performance experience on Wednesday 18 March, accompanied by a series of talks with the artists and technologists who created the project.

Free to attend, step into a world that combines cutting-edge digital technology and musical performance controlled by your mind and body.

A demonstration of the interactive musical experience where beautiful classical music is played by a solo harpist will see listener's brainwaves digitally processed to create a unique visual landscape of projected imagery.

The event offers a chance to discuss the processes involved with this unique technical art installation and to view and experience the technology at its centre.

Refreshments and nibbles will be provided; book to avoid disappointment.

About The Sensory Symphony

Exploring themes of mindfulness, consciousness, imagination and playfulness, the experience offers participants the opportunity to relax and enjoy an elegant visual display produced by their own physical responses.

A solo harpist will play a classical repertoire which gradually evolves into improvisation in the centre of a bespoke sculptural 3D environment, inspired by Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus.

Wearing a sensory headset, which supplies live data generated by the wearer’s responses, the audience will 'control' how the 3D projection is generated and presented by their own physical responses to the music, in turn informing the musician’s performance.

The biometric sensors in the headsets will measure the individual's brainwaves, heart-rate and temperature, which is then used to generate real-time video projection mapping and spatial lighting sequences that illuminate the performance space.

Throughout the performance, projected imagery and sound effects will surround and encase the audience within a digital world of landscapes, environments and habitats to heighten the overall experience.

The project aims to explore readily available mindfulness technology in an artistic context, producing new artwork that promotes creativity and wellness. The combination of technology - real-time graphics, projection mapping and Brain Computer Interface (BCI) - with music will be a first for the UK.

At a time when we are increasingly distracted by the material world and ever-evolving digital landscape, this experience is a chance for people to reconnect with their inner sense of self and their connection to others.
