Family & Education

Join ROSL in celebrating the work of Kenyan teacher Peter Tabichi, crowned the world's best teacher in 2019.

Join ROSL in celebrating the work of Kenyan teacher Peter Tabichi, crowned the world's best teacher at theย at the annual Global Education & Skills Forum in Dubai. Recipient of the $1millionย Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2019, Peter teaches science and maths at the Keriko secondary school in Pwani Village, in a remote part of Kenyaโ€™s Rift Valley.

Beating out 100,000 applicant from 179 countries, Peter'sย belief in his students and his innovative and passionate pedagogical approaches resulted in his students competing and winning national science competitions and participating in international ones too. In addition to his work at Keriko School, he established a Peace Club that brought people in his local communities together, and in addition, he has set up a programme to teach local farmers about drought resistant crops, as a way of tackling food insecurity issues. Peter is a Franciscan Brother and regardless of his meagre earnings as a teacher, he donates over 80% of his salary to community projects, thereby truly living up to his Franciscan values.

He will join us at ROSL on 2 October to discuss his approach to education, followed by a question and answer session with the audience and a drinks reception.
