Arts & Artists at Risk: KCL Arts Cluster Colloquium 2

Performing & Visual Arts

A roundtable to discuss pressing issues for arts and artists at risk in Sudan, Syria, the Phillipines, and right here in the UK.

At this time of global polycrisis — from climate breakdown to wars, refugee migrations to political suppression — arts and artists are at risk from many directions and in many ways. This is not new, and there is hope; but it requires attention and commitment to support and action.

Join us at 4:30pm on 23rd April in the St David's Room at King's College London for this important roundtable discussing some of the most pressing issues for Arts & Artists at Risk from Syria to Sudan and the UK to the Phillipines, featuring contributions from Aqeel Abdulla (CMCI), Steven Berryman (Music), Erica Carter & Eiman Hussein (Film Studies), Hannah Ishmael (DDH), and Marv Recinto (Courtauld), and chaired by Katherine Schofield (Music).

There will be plenty of time for audience Q&A with the panel, and the roundtable will be followed by an informal and friendly wine and non-alcoholic drinks reception.

The new King's Arts Cluster colloquium series is a biannual event, and is designed to foster interdisciplinary conversations and personal connections between colleagues and students in the departments of Creative, Media, and Cultural Industries, Digital Humanities, Film, and Music at King's College London, our neighbours at the Courtauld, and freinds elsewhere in London. It is currently organised by Professor Katherine Schofield in the Music Department.

Colloquia will be held twice a year, usually on a Wednesday, at 4:30 PM in the St David's Room on the Strand Campus. They will normally take the form of an interdisciplinary roundtable on a topical issue, with plenty of time for Q&A and informal discussion over refreshments afterwards.
