SYNOPSIS

Too many people think that doing great work is enough to be spotted as high performing talent and to be promoted. No-one wants to be seen as self-promotional, but Victoria Tomlinson will share the secrets of being seen as an expert in a field, be known to key influencers and being the person that leaders want on their team.

Victoria will cover:

• Strategic networking, especially at senior levels
• How to demonstrate a business mind and business effectiveness
• Impact in meetings
• Dressing for the job you want
• Taking on wider roles and interests for experience and contacts

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY

Victoria Tomlinson is a former director of EY, founder of award-winning Northern Lights and last year launched a new business, Next-Up, to help people to use their skills in unretirement. In her early career, she was a graduate trainee and legal officer for (now) GE Aviation and later travelling the world selling banknotes and security documents to foreign governments with (now) De la Rue.

An Amazon bestseller on blogging, she is one of the BBC’s expert women regularly appearing on TV and radio to comment on the news. She was a non-executive of Northern Ballet, chaired a board for Leeds University - and given the VC’s award for outstanding leadership - and mentors chief executives, women looking to be promoted, start-up businesses and ex-offenders.

At the age of 32, Victoria was invited to become director of (now) EY in the London office, sit on the management team, run a division with 100 people and lead a culture change programme in the London office – from the role of PR manager. At the BCSWomen evening, Victoria will reveal how she positioned herself to win the trust of management and this role.
