"Billionaires & Guillotines" London board game launch

Government & Politics

Join designer Max Haiven, in conversation with bestselling author and geographer Danny Dorling and award-winning game designer Meg Jayanth

In the new board game Billionaires and Guillotines, 2-5 players take on the roles of rival plutocrats competing to gobble up the wealth of the world before their actions trigger a revolution and they all loseโ€ฆ a lot more than their assets.

Pluto Press, who are publishing this game, invite you to join game designer and radical social theorist Max Haiven on April 13 at Pelican House to celebrate the launch of the gameโ€™s crowdfunding campaign.

The evening will begin with a panel, including:

  • Danny Dorling, Oxford geography professor and bestselling author of books including Seven Children: Inequality and Britain's Next Generation and Peak Injustice: Solving Britainโ€™s Inequality Crisis
  • Meg Jayanth, award-winning narrative and game designer whose credits include 80 Days, Sunless Sea and Horizon Zero Dawn.
  • Max Haiven, Canada Research Chair in the Radical Imagination, writer of books including Palm Oil: The Grease of Empire and Revenge Capitalism: The Ghosts of Empire, the Demons of Capital, and the Settling of Unpayable Debts.

The panel will be recorded and feature as part of The Exploits of Play, a podcast Haiven produces for the Weird Economies Platform. This event also celebrates the launch of the podcastโ€™s second season: โ€œAgainst the Fascist Gameโ€

After the panel, join us for drinks and discussion, or to play copies of Billionaires and Guillotines.

This event launches the crowdfunding campaign for Billionaires and Guillotines, which is available for preorder at a discount along with exciting rewards, clothing and other nice stuff.

The event is free and open to the public. Preregistation is preferred.
