Blockchain in the mainstream - taking distributed ledgers from fantasy to real world impact

Blockchain has been presented as a fundamental technology with the potential to transform many established systems.ย  It renders multiple middlemen and layers of trust superfluous, and has the potential to profoundly change the economics, distribution models and governance of such systems.

Yet blockchain seemsย less talked about now than a year ago, certainly since Libra moved from instant game-changer to a tough job of convincing the world's regulators to allow it to start.ย  We appear to have transitioned rather quickly from 'blockchain in every pitch' to 'don't mention the blockchain'.

But we are gradually seeing the emergence of use cases that take hold and prove the potential so hyped in recent years.ย  What are the signs that this is happening and what are we seeing?ย ย

We have invited possible contenders as well as commentators to take a look at whether the early use cases are beginning to bear fruit or whether the blockchain is still having a quiet moment out of the limelight as in Gartner's Trough of Disillusionment curve.ย
