Child health inequity: βitβs not fairβ
Across the world millions of children die or become unwell from preventable causes. These health inequalities particularly affect the poorest and minoritised children. They are both unfair and preventable. In this inaugural lecture Prof Delan Devakumar will discuss some of the structural determinants of health (climate change, migration, racism and violence) and how they impact children and adolescents. Along the way, he will describe his own path from clinical paediatrics to humanitarian work to public health to academia.
Speaker profile
Delan Devakumar was appointed Professor of Global Child Health at the UCL Institute for Global Health in 2022. Delan uses quantitative and qualitative methods, with an emphasis on public engagement and advocacy. His work spans many parts of the world but is mainly based in Brazil, South Asia and the UK.
The lecture will take place from 17:00-18:00 and will be followed by a drinks reception from 18:00-19:00 in the Hub, directly outside the lecture theatre.
This event is open to the public as well as UCL staff and students.
The lecture theatre and reception area are fully accessible.
