Al-Mushtarak, a study by the late Iraqi Communist leader Ibrahim Allawi, represents a significant development in socialist thought, drawing on the experiences of the Iraqi and global communist movement.
The study establishes the foundations for a path towards creating advanced democratic socialist societies that are free from the exploitation of humans or nations. It also discusses the basis of collaborative thought in Islamic history and emphasises the positive role that Islamic collaborative philosophical heritage can play in effecting positive change in Islamic societies.
The original Arabic language study was published in Iraq, 1983. This event by Iskra Books and Mushtarek.org is for launching the English translation of the Arabic version, with some minor editing. The Event will include presentations on the book by the editors of the English Edition, by the publishers, Iskra Books, and by prominent speakers from the Left in Britain and globally.
