Roundtable Discussions

Makers and Players present ______, an open discussion between academia and the commercial art world.

With the increase of art fairs over the last decade, the relevance of art fairs has become a critical topic of discussion in the art world. Art critic, Jerry Saltz, claims that β€œArt fairs are like America: They are broken and no one knows how to fix them.” (Vulture 2018). After interviewing attendees, gallerists and art collectors at art fairs, we realized that there is a gap between academia and the commercial art world. Therefore, this event is an experiment to see what happens when the two forces directly interact.

On Saturday 23rd November, we are hosting a roundtable talk which invites guests from both the education and commercial sector. The talk will be an informal and collaborative dialogue where the audience has the opportunity to participate.

After the roundtable, participants and guests of the event are invited to join us at the private view of the Makers & Players exhibition. The exhibition includes a display of our research alongside a display of artworks by artists who participated in the art model.

Attendees will leave with a free copy of our working publication β€˜Makers & Players: How to engage with the art fair”

Drinks and canapes will be served after the roundtable, alongside a private view of the Makers & Players. exhibition.
