City Horizons: Professor Monica L. Smith

Uncategorized

As part of our City Horizons series of events and following her popular City Talks podcast, we will be joined in London by Monica L. Smith, Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Los Angeles and author of Cities: the first 6,000 years.

This event will be an opportunity to hear more detail about the phenomenon of cities from Mesopotamia to Manhattan. Professor Smith will explore why cities started to develop around 6,000 years ago and how they have evolved since then.

What makes cities resilient and why do so many of us choose to live in them? And, crucially, what might their past tell us about their future?

We hope you can join us for a drinks reception after the talk.
