CQI London Branch - Learning Lessons

Business & Professional

The presentation will examine the identification and real learning of lessons from the perspective ‘prevention is more beautiful than cure'

Mike Debenham is a management consultant and trainer, trading as Business Process Improvement Unlimited. He is currently engaged in training Construction Industry personnel and has recently completed a couple of culture change projects which have had the goal of ‘placing quality on a par with safety’ within the cultures concerned.

Mike has worked in many industry sectors and is also supporting organisations to develop and improve their business processes; his consultancy technique is based on the well-known Chinese proverb: ‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime’. He achieves this objective by training client personnel rather than giving them off-the-shelf solutions.

Mike was Director of Policy and Professional Affairs at the CQI from 2000 to 2009 and participated in the projects to gain chartered status for both the Institute and individual members.

Mike’s presentation will examine the identification and the real learning of lessons from the perspective that ‘prevention is more beautiful than cure’ and that organisations need to develop a mature learning culture in addition to obtaining certification in the numerous standards that are currently available.

Mike will also address the difficulty of learning from project to project and the need to understand the difference between lessons identified and lessons learnt. Some time will be spent on culture and issues of getting the message across to top management that if we don’t learn lessons relating to quality success and failure it will impact our bottom line.

Examples of waste caused by not effectively addressing both opportunities to improve and failures to achieve quality will be briefly touched on.

Please join us from 6pm for refreshments and networking. Event starts at 6.30pm and finishes at 8pm
