Difference Festival - The Syrian Revolution: Past, Present & Future

Film, Media & Entertainment

The screening of 'Taste of Cement'

The screening of Taste of Cement, a film by Syrian director Ziad Kalthoum. Kalthoum’s is a Kubrick-style film/documentary which recounts the daily life of Syrian construction workers in a building site in Beirut, Lebanon will be followed by a talk with Syrian activist Amina Khoulani and reporter Leila al-Shami both with varying degrees of involvement and participation in the Revolution. The talk looks to offer their first hand testimony of the Syrian revolution since its inception through the past eight years in what international media have labelled as a civil war. The talk looks to reignite the discussion about the genuine nature of the popular uprising that swept through Syria in 2011 and well into 2014 and the distortions created by local and international media in their coverage of the events. In particular the two guests will shed light on the inaccuracies and incongruities that global media have channelled, distorting the truth of what happened in Syria between 2011 and 2014.

The event will be followed by a drinks reception
