Good Books at the London Jesuit Centre: Henry Wansbrough OSB

Henry Wansbrough is a monk of Ampleforth and a renowned biblical scholar. He has written a couple of dozen books. He edited the New Jerusalem Bible and most recently single-handedly the Revised New Jerusalem Bible. He has lectured all over the world, as far as Africa, Australia and North America. He was for a dozen years Master of St Benet’s Hall in Oxford. He was Chair of the Oxford University Faculty of Theology and more recently Professor of Biblical Studies at Liverpool Hope University. He has served on a number of Vatican Commissions, including the Pontifical Biblical Commission and the Anglican Roman Catholic international Commission. Some maintain that no one can understand the bible without smelling camel-dung and being lost in the desert; he qualifies on both grounds.

Nicholas King is a Jesuit priest who teaches biblical studies at Campion Hall in the University of Oxford. He has translated the Old and New Testaments of the Bible (published by Kevin Mayhew).

Format

The format of Good Books events is 20-minutes of the author (or, in this case, translator) speaking about the book, 20-minutes in discussion with an expert interlocutor, and then 20-minutes in conversation with the audience. Followed by drinks.

The evening begins at 7.00pm at the London Jesuit Centre.

Admission is free by ticket.
