Launch of Philosophy Behind Bars

Join Kirstine Szifris at the launch of her book Philosophy Behind Bars

Kirstine Szifris’ book, Philosophy behind bars: Growth and development in prison offers fresh insights into the importance for people in prison to have the space to reflect and grow. This ground-breaking study found that engaging prisoners in philosophy education enabled them to think about some of the β€˜big’ questions in life and as a result to see themselves and others differently.

At this event Kirstine will join three colleagues to discuss the role of philosophy in prisons: Professor Fergus McNeill (University of Glasgow), Marc Conway (Prison Reform Trust) and Andy West (Philosophy Foundation). Together they will reflect on the relevance of this type of education in the prison space and the contribution of her work. With their combined experiences of teaching, studying, and conducting research in prison, this should prove a fascinating discussion from a group of people whose expertise each provide a unique perspective on this issue.

The evening will end with a drinks reception and copies of Kirstine's book will be on sale.
