LFA: Who cares about our health?

Business & Professional

Healthcare architecture needs a transfusion. Not just new blood but fresh, diverse thinking and approaches pumped in to revitalise it.

In 2020, the UK government committed to building 40 hospitals by 2030 as part of a package worth Β£3.7 billion. But do we really need 40 new hospitals? What if that’s not what the pandemic-fatigued population really needs?

Consider the barbershop and the positive effect it has on men’s mental health. Even the NHS agree – so much so that they launched a training session for barbers last year to spot warning signs. If hospitals are places where they fix something broken, then shouldn’t we consider caring for our health when we’re designing buildings and places for our communities?

Stop by the Study Studio at The Foundling Museum and hear our eclectic panel chatting about people and how places help care for them – from cradle to grave. The discussion will be hosted by Ewan Graham, Partner & Healthcare lead at Hawkins\Brown and speakers include:

Dr Rachel Clarke , Palliative Care doctor & author

Hilary Evans , Chief Executive , Alzheimer’s Research UK

Rama Gheerawo, Director , Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design , RCA

Tim Goodacre , Vice President , Royal College of Surgeons

Marian Ridley , Director , Evelina London
