About the lecture
“Without light there is no film.” 16mm film, analogue photographs, photograms, objects, musical instruments and stone carving: this lecture reflects on materiality, the body’s performance and the desire for transformation.
About the speaker
Jayne Parker is Professor of Fine Art and Head of Graduate Fine Art Media at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. She studied Sculpture at Canterbury College of Art (1977-80) and Experimental Media at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL (1980-82). Her recent work explores the form and expression of music in a search for ‘musical equivalence’. Her films are distributed by LUX and a compilation of her film works was released by the BFI in 2008 in their British Artists' Films series.

Inaugural Lecture Series 2019/20
This lecture is part of the 2019/20 series for UCL's Faculty of Arts & Humanities and Faculty of Social & Historical Sciences. The series provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our professors who are undertaking research and scholarship of international significance, and offers an insight into the strength and vitality of the arts, humanities and social sciences at UCL.
All our lectures are free to attend and open to all. You don't have to be a UCL staff member or student to come along.
Lectures begin at 18:30 and are typically one hour long. A drinks reception will follow, to which everyone is welcome to join.
