Pushing Back on Plastics: 1858 Charter Lecture 2019

Charity & Causes

A lecture on plastics by Dr Rolph Payet, lead author of the IPCC reports awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

The pollution of our marine and terrestrial environment by plastic waste is one of the most pressing global environmental challenges facing the world today. Over the last ten years we have produced more plastic than during the whole of the last century.

This year the University of London's 1858 Charter Lecture 2019 is devoted to Dr Rolph Payet who will share his expertise on the subject.

Dr Payet was Lead Author on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's reports, awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of the panel's efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and laying the foundations for the measures needed to counteract such change.

The evening will start with a reception, followed by an introduction from the University of London's Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Mary Stiasny OBE, proceeded by Dr Payet's lecture. There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the lecture.
