Student Prize Awards and Career Talk by BCS President - London Central Branch

Uncategorized

The BCS London Central branch hosts an annual award ceremony for students in 11 Universities. We have 1 prize winner from each of the following Universities: City, Greenwich, Imperial, King's, London Met, London South Bank, Middlesex, Queen Mary, Royal Holloway, UCL and UEL.   The BCS President, Michael Grant, will be presenting the awards and will give an overview of the achievements that each student is being awarded for. After a short break the BCS President will then give a presentation on his career to date and the rich opportunities that the IT sector provides.   About the speakerMichael Grant first entered the technology field in the flight simulation industry. He then spent 35 years working in a variety of international marketing and corporate communications roles at director and vice-president level within six IT companies: Gateway, Lotus Development, Commodore, ICL, Prime Computer and Wang.   In recent years, he has worked in IT recruitment, having founded his own pan-European IT headhunting company. Today, he is an associate director of Harvey Nash, one of the world’s leading IT services and recruitment organisations.   As BCS president, Grant's priority is to champion the fundamental line of trying to make IT good for society.   He came from a humble background and says of the IT sector "you could be of any religion, any colour, any background and people just didn’t care. You had an equal opportunity and, in my case, it was always upward because I started at the bottom. The industry gave me extraordinary opportunities that, in my wildest dreams, I could never have thought possible".
