Supporting Curatorial Practice in Museums, Galleries and the Arts

Performing & Visual Arts

The Association for Art History's summer event supporting curatorial professional development and creative practice.

On 30 June the Association for Art History will host a summer event to include mentoring for curators, a panel discussion on contemporary interventions into historic collections and a drinks reception. Those attending the sessions and all AAH members are invited to join the first in-person offering from the Association’s Curatorial Committee, part of an initiative to support curators and curatorial practice in the UK.

The event will begin with Speed Mentoring sessions in which selected mentees will engage in 15-minute one-to-one meetings with esteemed colleagues in the curatorial field.

Mentors include:

• Christine Riding, Head of Curatorial, The National Gallery

• Richard Parry, Creative Director, St. James Piccadilly

• Renée Mussai, Senior Curator/Head of Curatorial & Collection, Autograph

• Sonia Solicari, Director, Museum of the Home

Applications are open to anyone working in the curatorial field. If you are interested in being considered for a mentoring slot, please register your interest by emailing [email protected] and you will then be sent a registration form. Mentoring slots are limited.

The second part of the evening will consist of an interactive in-conversation on ‘Interventions in Historic and Contemporary Collections’ with specially invited guest speakers. Two 15-minute presentations will be followed by audience discussion on the topics raised. Provocation questions will be sent in advance to attendees prior to the event for consideration.

Members of the Association are invited to attend the ‘in-conversation’ event and join us for a drinks reception after the panel discussion. Due to space considerations, booking is required.

Evening Schedule

4.30 – 5.45pm Speed Mentoring sessions (application only)

6.00 – 7.00pm Interventions in Historic and Contemporary Collections (Booking required)

7.00 – 8:30pm Drinks - meet & greet (Booking required)

The event will take place at the Association for Art History offices in Cowcross Street, EC1M 6EJ.

This initiative has been developed by the AAH Curatorial Committee. The Committee was formed in 2019 and aims to support the curatorial field and its practitioners involved in the study, interpretation and presentation of artworks. It does this through creating opportunities for professional development, information and knowledge exchange and networking, as well as through projects intended to promote and advance the curatorial profession.
