ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

On Gaia’s Skin invites viewers to reflect on the diverse textural qualities of our planet, bringing attention to the interconnectedness of all natural forms.

If a cosmic giant were to run their hand on Earth’s surface, what would they feel? Would they revel in the softness of feathers and fur, scrape their palm on concrete corners and porcupine needles, get tickled by the swaying tree tops or refreshed by the salty lick of the waves?

The title references the Ancient Greek goddess Gaia who was Earth personified and gave birth to the sky, the sea and all life. It also recalls Lovelock and Margulis’ paradigm which suggests our planet is an entity kept alive by the interactions between its organisms and their surroundings.

This group exhibition aims to be a humbling and inspiring experience where the viewer feels immersed in nature’s intricacies. The selected works will evoke movement and tactility through rhythmic composition and surprising materials. On Gaia’s Skin will showcase five contemporary artists representing the fabric of life with their own unique voices.
