Michael Jennings, Professor of Global Development in Africa

Title of Inaugural Lecture: Back to the Future: Β· Saviourism and Solidarity in Global Development

About the Lecture: This lecture looks back at the first Development Decade of the 1960s, with particular focus on the ways in which ideas around global solidarity, local action and radical ideas of decolonised practice were reflected in Tanzanian development. Professor Jennings reflects on the how echoes from that past are reflected in contemporary global development debates.Β

This inaugural lecture is both a return to the start of Professor Jennings research career, and a look forward to new ways in which historical explorations of global development can speak directly to contemporary concerns, debates and challenges.

Professor Jenning's research career began with a focus on the history of development in east Africa in the 1960s and β€˜70s.
